Information for patients

"What you need to know" from A-Z

This is where you will find basic general information about your residential treatment programme. Information about any specific rules the individual departments may have is available for download here.

The following rules apply without exception to the grounds and in all buildings of the Anton Proksch Institute:
  • Patients and visitors are forbidden to bring in and use alcohol and other addictive substances.
  • No one who is under the influence of alcohol or any other substance will be allowed to enter the Anton Proksch Institute.
  • It is strictly prohibited to bring pets into the grounds and buildings.
  • The management of the Institute accepts no liability for accidents suffered by visitors.
To obtain a date for admission to Department I, Unit for Alcohol Addiction, Prescription Drug Addiction, Gambling Addiction (focus on trauma, psychiatric comorbidities) or Department III, Unit for Alcohol Addiction, Prescription Drug Addiction, Gambling Addiction (withdrawal unit, stabilisation, lifestyle changes) at the Anton Proksch Institute, please contact the Outpatient Clinic Wiedner Hauptstraße, the Outpatient Clinic in Gräfin Zichy Straße or one of our Addiction Counselling Centres in Lower Austria.
If you are interested in receiving residential treatment at Department II of the Anton Proksch Institute (treatment of dependence on illegal substances), you should contact our “Treffpunkt” outpatient clinic or one of the Addiction Counselling Centres in Lower Austria.

Release of Information about Patients

For reasons of data protection, we are unable to provide any information about patients. For the same reason, we are unable to accept telephone calls for patients.

Treatment Costs

The costs of both non-residential and residential treatment will be paid by your health insurance fund or the social welfare authorities. Financial support such as unemployment benefit or sick pay will continue to be paid during residential treatment. Residential treatment is considered to be sick leave and must therefore be reported to your employer or the Public Employment Service (AMS).
Please bear in mind that like every other hospital our specialist treatment centre levies a daily patient’s contribution charge to help cover costs (this does not apply to patients who are exempt from prescription charges and welfare recipients).

Visiting Hours at Departments I and III

Visitors are welcome at Departments I and III on weekdays between 16:00 and 19:30 and on Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays between 10:00 and 19:30.
Visitors are requested to remain in the communal areas and grounds, and are not permitted to enter patient rooms. Visiting restrictions may be imposed for therapeutic care reasons.
Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Visiting Hours at Department II

Visiting at Department II is regulated on an individual basis and without exception must always be agreed in advance with the medical team. The frequency with which visiting is allowed depends first and foremost on the stage of treatment.
Special arrangements may be made for underage patients and for children who were cared for by the patient prior to admission.

As parking in the area around the Anton Proksch Institute is limited, we recommend that you use public transport or arrange for someone to drop you off.
